I want to run a new set of spacers on my rig as I use them for clearance. I run 1 inch all the way around but I want to make the rear axles match with the front. What size spacer do I need in the rear to match? I have a 95 f250 7.3
The WMS to WMS of a sterling 10.25 is 65.5". The Dana 60s are 69.5" I would think the TTB is the same or close, so you'd need a 2" spacer on the rear to bring even with the front.
Keep in mind that Ford designed the the rear to be narrower to help with turning radius.
I had a SOB vehicle where the rear axles were 4" narrower than the front. Scuttlebutt was that the manufacturer simply did not want to have a new part in inventory, so they kept the old rear axle despite going with a new and wider one for the front.
Like FinnishStroker, 2" spacers in the rear made a noticeable difference on pavements with ruts. Before the spacers, the vehicle would squirm a bit like a surfer that could not quite stay in the wave's sweet spot. After the spacers, the vehicle was very steady. Having an equal stance also improves cornering stability.
To answer the original question, simply grab a tape measure, measure front and rear widhts from either the inner or outer tire treads, and see what the difference is. Divide that number by 2. Presuming that the vehicle already has 1" spacers all around, add 1" to that number, if not, ignore this step. Naturally, this presumes that all the tires have the same width, wheels have the same offset, and that the truck is not a dually
