got a question here. my heater temp control is shot due to someone[ my wife, and i'll deny everything if confronted] by spilling a popular beverage all over it thereby rusting or sticking everything together. wont move at all. have tried drying it out as best i can. no joy. my question. how hard is it to replace? does the dash have to be disassembled or.....?92 f150
If you can get out, you may be able to free it up by soaking it. If you can't/don't want to remove the unit, you could try making a dam around the **** with masking tape and pouring a little alcohol or Windex or something in there, see if that softens the schmoo enough to let you work it loose. Unless the pop made it into the mechanism, I'd expect there to be a big glob of dried corn syrup at the bottom of the **** sticking it to the panel behind it.
Temp control is a very freely moving assembly if you have the bevel gears type, when the cable is not attached it almost spins. If you have the rack & pinion type (pic below) it could get gummed up. Either way pulling it out to inspect isn't bad: pull the trim insert above that runs above the glovebox and above the temp controls, remove the bezel around the temp controls, remove 4 screws holding the control module in the dash, the worst part is getting the electrical connectors free, the vacuum connector has pressed steel nuts holding it snug but them pries off without much effort. Then you can pull the module out further to inspect the the back of the temp control to see what you're up against. Once you disconnect the cable you will know if the friction is in the **** or further down somewhere in the cable or blend door.
