VIN help

Hi, we have a 1948 Ford F600 and are trying to get a title on it. What we have found when we search a decoder is 1958 Fairlane. Can anyone help clarify this? The VIN IS 98RT142516 I believe. Pictures attached.

Hi Dawn, welcome to the forum! You've found the serial number for the truck, 98RT 142516, and the good news is all your plates match the frame number. With that you should be able to get paperwork and title from your state licensing department. Check with them to see what their process is. The numbers decode to a 1949 F6 truck with the V8 engine. The numbers stamped into the firewall is the production code. In that is the color code (16), assembly plant code (KC = Kansas City, which is also the branch code on the firewall plate) and what appears to be 13M, the assembly build date, December 13, 1949. The 59 number was an internal tracking number used at the factory and has no correlation to the truck.

I hope this helps. Keep us updated on your title progress and the process you needed to use to get one. Every state is different and rules change all the time. Your information can be helpful to others. What are your plans for the truck? Is it a recently acquired project? Something else? We're always happy to answer questions and of course, would love to see pictures of your truck!
