Gentleman, can someone tell me if the plastic shield that the ignition key goes into is replaceable without replacing the whole key cylinder, If so does anyone have the part number? I'd really rather not replace the whole cylinder in fear I'd have a bas%ard key that doesn't match the doors. Mine is discolored from 21 years of use. It doesn't look bad in the picture because I just cleaned it with alcohol but when it dries turns a cloudy while color.
Sorry but I’m looking for a quality OEM solution that will last. Painting this part may last a year at best then I’d be back to square one. Perfect if I was to sell the truck. Think, every time you start and stop the engine, your fingers chafe against the finish. Paint won’t last. That’s why the OEM is colored high density plastic.
I have used a product called Back to Black for some of my black plastic parts with good success. I don't know how slippery it may make the handle though.

That 'plastic shield' pulls off the cylinder, it's removable. Just pull hard, it snaps back on. There are some used ones in good shape. Fairly standard for many Ford trucks/autos.
I posted the part number above, which when searched is showing the cylinder, and handle, at both dealers, and amazon.
You must have me on block for some reason.

I looked up the part number 1L3Z-11582-A on Amazon and they say that part number doesn’t fit our Excursion. They suggest Motorcraft number SW6383.
Are they the same part only Ford vs Motorcraft?
Which is probably the alternate Ford short part number. The long part number I posted was from the ford parts lookup for the 2001 Excursion.
