Cross-posting this from the superduty forum to hopefully find some answers. Alright guys, coming to you because I’m completely stumped. Truck has been smoking, less at idle more when initially taking off from a stop or giving it more gas. It’s like it slowly builds up more smoke when I’m driving it, but when I park it and let it idle it slowly clears up until it’s almost nothing. Just rebuilt the turbo with fresh seals and replaced an injector that threw me a code months ago, no change in it at all. Can’t tell if I’m losing coolant as my radiator has a little leak anyway. Smoke doesn’t smell like much out of the ordinary and has a blueish-white color. No tune keeping the egr closed or delete. It’s a 2005 and the only codes I’m throwing are a couple of glowplug codes.
If you have the tools on hand the first one to check is the cooling system with vacuum and see it it holds the vacuum.
Next if it passed the vacuum test is to pressure test. You don't need to be crazy so 16 PSI would be fine. Then let it
sit and see if the pressure holds. The reason for doing the vacuum first is if there is a leek your not pushing coolant into
the cylinders. I would also pressure test the cap to be sure that is holding. One place to check for leeks is the water pump
weep vent hole. The other place is the hose on the end of the EGR cooler and the oil cooler port.
If you can I would let the pressure sit for a few hours and see how it holds.
