I almost went with Bluetop but they were out of stock when I called them. Redhead had theirs available to ship. It snowed here yesterday in southern AZ but should melt by later today so I'm hoping I get a chance to put everything in. My last pressure hose (booster to gears) should be here today.

We have family friends in the Phoenix area and they told us they were having hail and monsoon rain. I told them BS... They sent a short video...

I read why you are replacing the steering gear in your first post, but was your gear showing signs of wear that is typical to a 20 year old truck? Slop in the steering, movement in the output shaft, etc?

Looking forward to your thoughts, I will be replacing my second AZ (first was roadside repair with no option to wait for the red/blue) steering gear soonish. KubotaOrange76 has been nice enough to offer up his shop and tools for my project.

Sous,
My steering over the last year-ish has shown a little more wander and play than in years past. Since I was replacing the pump and hoses and everything was drained (on the side of the road thanks to the broken high pressure hose) I figured I'd go ahead and replace the steering gears since the truck is 20 years old now.
If you guys ever make it to AZ I'd be up for a meet and greet!
Todd

Todd, we will be there in the fall of this year as long as THE VID doesn't inhibit travel too much. We have friends in Mesa and Scottsdale that we always see when we go from GA, to ID, AZ and then home via TX.

I look forward to your impressions of the steering gear. Have fun with it, that is what it is there for!

I ran into the issue of my vise not being big enough and bench not strong enough to torque the pitman arm nut to 199 lb ft. I decided to bolt the redhead on the outside of the frame using 2 bolts and that allowed me torque the pitman arm appropriately.

Maybe this will help someone else in the future.

Nice tip and it looks like someone stole all the rust off of your truck.

That is a good idea and I will more than likely use that technique when it comes time for a Redhead or Bluetop to go into my truck.
