So my power steering pump pressure hose took a crap on me so I decided to go ahead and replace the pressure hose (hydroboost to pump), pressure hose (hydroboost to steering gear), PS pump, and steering gears.
Anyhow, I ordered the Redhead gears and am waiting for them to arrive. Does anyone know if they come with new o-rings fro the return line from the PS cooler? Mine shredded removing the hose from the old steering gear box.
I was able to find an assortment of o-rings (viton & rubber) and hopefully in that assortment I can find the right size to fit. Redhead should be here Monday. The old one is out and ready for the new one.
Your not referring to the teflon washer (Dorman 82540) are you? They go between the hose and the gear on both sides and are two different sizes. I replaced the high pressure hose with a Motorcraft from Riffraff 3ish years ago and do not remember an o-ring, but I have slept since then so my memory has been wiped.
EDIT: Looking a bit further into the missing (in my brain) o-ring on the hoses, I found this in section 211-02 in the FSM and I believe it is referring to the teflon washers as well. Still looking for the o-ring part.
When I disconnected this from the steering gear there was only 1 o-ring on it, to the right of the ridge. This is the return line from the cooler to the steering gear. The current one was black.
No problem at all. Just so we are clear, you are looking for o-rings to go on the lines where the lines connect to the steering gear with the sliding fitting, is that right?
There’s two hoses into the steering gears. One is a pressure hose from the hydroboost (there’s also a pressure hose from the hydroboost to the PS pump) and the other is a return hose from the cooler to the steering gears. The second one is the one I’m looking for o-ring for. Akcoopers thread helped a lot. I think a rubber one will be the ticket, just need to measure the tube once it stops raining.
Just the one for hose number 7. I have a new hose number 5 coming today. Received my Redhead yesterday. She was waiting patiently on my doorstep. The new gears do indeed come with new o-rings in the package! Thanks to everyone for helping with this.
