Jack replacement?

A little while back I took out my underhood jack and tried to extend it so I could clean it and grease. It was a huge PITA to extend. Has anyone been able to fit a bottle jack in it's place under the hood? The shape of the two seem comparable. I worked my original up and down quite a few times and it does extend, but I dont care for how hard it is to get to full extension without tipping over first, and that it's not entirely stable on flat ground.

Did you try and lube the crap out of it?
Even when new the jacks never stayed up right when you worked them.

I did lube the crap out of mine but it needs to be replaced as it jammed up and will not move any more.
I did place it back under the hood so it looks good LOL

I would think between a clamp from the hardware store and a little thought you should be able to come up with a combo that would work. Think outside the box.

You could get one in the plastic box and bolt the box to the inner fender. Wouldn't exactly look stock though. Might have to make a new bracket to match the bottle jack that bolts in the same place as the stock jack.

You are not going to find a bottle jack that is as compact as the stock jack, and extends the same distance as the stock jack. With a bottle jack you are going to find you need a significant block of wood to go along with it to lift the truck up. These trucks are high off the ground, especially a 4x4.

Next time you change the oil, put it in a 5 gallon bucket and sit the jack down in it and leave it for a week. Pull it out into a pan and let it drain and see if that helps it.

Trans fluid would do better than the motor oil.

I keep my jack operational by generous lubing with Fluid-Film. Lube it or lose it. These are great little jacks that work well.

I've even used mine as a house jack. Works perfectly.

I didn't have to do anything to mine. It functioned perfectly when I got the truck. Everything else was gone though.

Yeah mine has always worked great too. But lubed up with Fluid-Film it works even smoother. Also keeps the threads from rusting any more than they are now.
