So I have a question my f150 3.5 ecoboost with the 10 speed trans. while driving and its in the 10th speed and if I am driving and hit the speed limiter it will cause the trans to start to heat up. when I stop on the side of the road almost like reset it, it will start to cool down like normal. also when im on cruise and I come to a overpass and it shifts to get over the overpass it has started to overheat and again when I stop it like resets and begins to cool off. other times like in town driving and when just running down the road regular driving it does fine. any thoughts?
What do you consider 'overheating?' Just that the temperature guage has gone up above half, or are you actually getting into the red part of the indicator?
Yes, driving fast can cause a trans to heat up, and if you are doing this repeatedly or for a prolonged time then yes, it will definitely heat up. How much I'm not sure, because I've never run anything for a long period of time close to the speed limiter.
That said, if there is a problem in your cooling system, then yes things will also start to heat up when they're under load, which running a brick down the road at 90+mph is definitely putting things under load.
I’m talking like immediately runs up to 260° from 210° When I stop it starts to cool off with no issues. I mean it acts like the fluid flow or maybe pressure between gears goes down and when you stop at a red light or pull over it starts it over shifting through gears
First, 210 is normal, so you're okay there. And yes, running the truck at its maximum speed is going to make the transmission heat up, and coming to a stop or slowing down will allow it to cool off.
My suggestion is to either take it to a dealer and have them check it over (which they will probably tell you 'cannot replicate the problem' because they are not legally allowed to exceed the speed limit in a customer's vehicle), or just...slow down. Life is too precious to be spending it all treating the expressway like a road race.
I don't know because mine was disabled with the tune. From what I hear it is a governor that limits top speed to under 100mph if not mistaken. I've had mine over 100 by accident.....
