Ok, so my plan is to upgrade the Sync2 system on my '15 into a Sync3 setup. My '15 only has 50k miles on it and I am not putting many miles on it so I don't plan to trade it in very soon. I had the opportunity to drive a '20 while my truck was being serviced and I didn't see anything that made me want to jump up and make a trade. I am curious about the Sync system since that is about the only difference I could see between my truck and the '20. It's not worth spending tens of thousands of $$ to upgrade yet.
So, that being said I am curious to know about using Android instead of Apple if I do upgrade.
Does Android do text to speech? Can I download aps like Waze and display on the Sync screen? What about Outlook and other email programs. Do they download and work?
What are your thoughts about Sync 3 vs. Sync 2? I really want to do the upgrade but want to make sure it's worth the effort.
Edit to add: Mine is a '15 F350 6.7 CCSB with the Lariat premium package.

Yes, Android Auto does text to speech.
You can display either Google Maps or Waze via Android Auto.
It basically mirrors your phone, the actual app isn't in the truck and, using waze for instance, requires the usb to be hooked up. You'll also find "ok" triggers the google search function while hooked up. So if you are listening to a podcast and someone keeps saying "ok" it will pause and the voice command will trigger. Took me 2 weeks to figure out WTF was going on when that started happening.

I was reading some info last night on the newest version Android 11.
According to what I read.... Android Auto will be able to operate wirelessly. I have a new Galaxy S21 on order so I should be able to confirm this in about a week or so.

Android Auto can already operate wirelessly if the head unit supports it. You'll need Sync 4 (or an aftermarket HU) for that.

Ummmm, there’s more than the SYNC 3 system in a 2020 F150 compared to your 2015 that justifies the higher price tag of the vehicle including the trim.
You do know that this conversion is going to cost you close to $1K or more depending on if you also included factory navigation.
With that being said, make sure you also swap out the USB module with your conversion.
Have you considered going to an aftermarket head unit that has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay built in?

I'm not going to pay $30-40k to get the newer truck. Yes, I have considered aftermarket but even those are in the $800.00 range so I would prefer the factory setup over aftermarket. Chances are that parts for aftermarket won't be available in a couple of years where the factory units will be all over in used and new parts houses. I currently have navigation and my Android phone has better mapping so I would not need factory navigation. Every upgrade conversion I have looked at has the USB module included. Since my hvac controls do not have a heated/cool seat switch I need to make sure the system I install has those icons on the display. As I understand it the Sync 4 system has built in wireless but I can use a cable if necessary. On the flip side my current setup works fine so it's not necessary to do any upgrade. I just like the idea of doing it.
