I'd really like to go adjustable only because I have the possibility of towing different trailers. It's looking like most ppl are good with a 6 or 7 in drop so that's probably what I'll be shooting for, I have no intentions of lifting the truck. Still like the tow and stow but the safe weight ones look nice too.
I have a 20 250 SD that I need to buy a 2.5in hitch for. What size adjustable drop hitch does everyone use for a stock truck? I'm looking at a b&w. I don't have the trailer yet so I can't measure the height.
If you only have one trailer I would skip the adjustables. And sometimes using an adjustable will require a big spread for low profile trailers. For example, I have a 10" drop WeighSafe hitch (no scale) that has the same 'working' drop as my solid billet 8" drop for my motorcycle trailer.
I think I would wait until I have the trailer as well. Tongue weight could add or decrease the amount of drop needed to make it level.
I can buy a separate forged 2", 4", and 6" drop and still have plenty of money left over compared to some of these adjustable hitches mentioned....crazy

I had about $80 into a solid forged 6" drop and ball, was able to return that when I got the Weigh Safe 6" drop for about $175.

This is true, but if you don't want to carry several different hitches/***** then you gotta pay for an adjustable.
I wanted to carry one hitch in the truck that would do the job no matter what trailer I might find myself towing, so I bought a 2.5" shank Weigh Safe hitch w/scale. 8" drop and includes 2 interchangeable stainless ***** (2" and 2-5/16"), on sale for $209.
I use an Andersen Rapid hitch that fits a 2-1/2” receiver. I have the 6” drop and rise version. At times I use all 6” drop on my 2020 F350 CCSB.I’m very satisfied with it.
+1 for Weigh Safe. Plus, they're American made. Some folks seem to just shop based on price. I'd encourage you to 'vote with your wallet'. I've had Andersen in the past (fixed mount) and liked them as well (also American made).
I went for the 8" drop, adjustable, all-aluminum, Cerakote version because the last thing I want to do is have the nose of my aluminum trailer too high and increase the chance of dragging the rear on asphalt or concrete.
The reason I went with the Weigh Safe (besides the built-in gauge) is the way they incorporated the pins to adjust the height. Unlike BW and Andersen which use pins and cotters, the Weigh Safe stays in place because of a lock (not cotters) and the two height adjust pins are connected by the handle that houses the lock. Easy one-sided operation and theft protection all-in-one.
I'm going the overkill route for my drop-down hitch. The new F350 on order will most likely sit slightly taller than my 2012 and using a 4" Curt dropdown ball hitch. I have this pintle hitch that's been sitting in storage for some years now, American made Wallace Forge Co., I picked up 13 years ago and used it on my 2008 F350 when a riser was needed for a trailer being used.
Here is after removing the pintle hook (which will get a good cleaning, painting and greasing before going back into storage). Did a quick hand sanding needs a little more before painting.
Ordered this Reese Ball and Pintle hook for $50
If I noticed the stamping before ordering the ball/ pintle I would of ordered a Wallace Forge Co. one for only $17 more for an all American setup.
I'll post a picture after I get it painted and put together, weather has turned cooler and rainy. Total loaded trailer weight will be under 3000#. Slight overkill. Some of the adjustable hitches have crazy pricing on them so for $50 and a little elbow grease/ paint I'll put part of the old hitch back in service.
