Hello all, so I got my ol truck running named it raggedy Ann haha. But I have encountered a few issues. 1. The truck runs good but the last two times I had it out it got stuck in 4th Gear, it freed up after a few miles but shifts thru the rest of the gears great. Next issue is it gets to shaking really bad at 55ish but not shaking in the steering wheel just the truck. I have checked the trans fluid and I plan to have wheels and tires balanced this week. Thanks
92 f150 4x4, 302, 180k miles 5 spd ( guessing m5odr2). I checked the u joints didn't see any play there but there was a little bit of play where the drive shaft goes in the t-case and the rear end. Is that normal. I guess the bad tire cld be on the back of the truck maybe that's why my steering isn't shaking.
You stated you had two issues. Stuck in 4th gear and the high speed shake. The vibration/shake is more than likely that bad tire on the rear. I was simply saying they are two separate issues. None of the vibration solutions would cause your transmission to do what it is doing.
Yes 2 issues. U asked about the trans so I answered that, and the other guy mentioned the tires and u joints so I mentioned what I had already checked. On trying to solve that issue. And since the steering isn't shaking I wld think maybe if the tire or tires are bad then they are on the back.
But I know that has nothing to do with the trans getting stuck.
I read about maybe the shift fork being worn or synchronizers being bad u have knowledge on those. I appreciate ur response
the sticking 4th could be a slightly bent shift fork.
universals are funny things. i have seen driveshafts with u joints that visually look fine, and wiggle check fine. but when you pull them apart they are dry and the roller bearings come out almost as a powder.
my experience with universals is if there is any sign of discoloration or rust look on the caps at all, they are bad.
and with how little universals cost, i usually just replace them when i get a used vehicle so i know they are good.
