So the truck is an 06 with about 150k on it. 4” exhaust, tuned and fully bulletproofed. Truck was being an absolute dog going up slight hills unloaded and made no power unless I went WOT, but still made boost and had normal throttle input. Pulled the turbo and found the veins to be stuck, so cleaned er up. Put it back on and took it for a test drive and it seemed like it had all the low end power it’s been missing even though I had a boost leak and needed new clamps. Which led me to belief the veins were finally moving.
Parked the truck till they showed up(4 days) and replaced them, boost leak tested it and everything is good.
Now I take it out for a drive and at like 20% throttle it makes 20psi, but has no power. Little bit more throttle (say 45-50%) it makes 35psi and there is 0 increase in power. Truck doesn’t sit and lay black smoke down while I’m doing that so I’m leaning towards the veins have stuck again since letting it sit for a few days? It will dump smoke if I rev it at idle though which it has always done and drives just fine. But that ain’t right lol
here’s what I’ve done so far to try and correct that:
-New EBP/Tube (thought that would fix it since i pulled it and it was clogged, wrong) KOEO passes the MAP/BARO comparison test as well with the new one
-checked MAP tube, fitting. Perfectly fine
-vgt solenoid wiring looks good
I’m leaning towards the veins re-froze, or maybe the solenoid is bad. I have noticed when starting the truck cold now I don’t get the delay of hearing the turbo spool up. Also unplugging the VGT solenoid and plugging it back in at idle does not emit any audible differences, but does throw a CEL.
Anybody got any ideas? I’ve been reading and searching for like 3 days lol
If you don't have any codes, tell us what you are using to check with.
Bismic, what do you recommend pulling codes with? i signed on this morning because I'm having "kinda sorta" the same problem as OP but with turbo bark and it's throwing soft codes of 470/488 but that's through the SCT tuner. I have a generic ELM327 bluetooth scanner somewhere are here... is that sufficient or do you recommend something else? It's been quite a while since I've needed to pull codes thankfully lol.
BTW, good to see you on here still saving us lost 6.souls.

no codes at all which is awesome. Maybe I need to just get out and drive it for awhile to try and see if it’ll set any? Snap on solus legend and my sct show nothing :/
Yessir! Wasn’t as much at the opening as I expected. The fitting got replaced as well.
One thing you can also do is return the truck to stock if tuned and then reinstall the tune OR disconnect the battery cables, turn on the headlight switch to clear the KAM and then drive it. It will do a "relearn". If it still has issues then it's time to do some data logging and see what's going on.
Scott, do/did you have the butterfly that bolts to the intake manifold or has it been removed? That will typically cause the 0488 if it's been removed. I have it all the time but haven't had the butterfly in more than 10 years and it causes me no issues. AFA the P0470, that's a bad EBP sensor and I recommend you go with the Ford since it was replaced by a TSB a LONG LONG time ago because the design was bad on the 04.5 motors with the butterfly. At least that's what the tech told me when they did mine in 05. It's also possible the EBP tube is plugged. I'd check that first since it's fast/easy to do. Also, when is the last time you cleaned your turbo?
Really appreciate the reply but I don't want to hijack OP's post here. I started my own thread just now and I'll edit my post to include answers to your question. Thanks!!

I will give this a try a little later today and report back!
Bump. IPR, VGT duty, ICP and what else should I log? Or is there a way I can try and command the VGT manually/with a scan tool or power probe? Really feeling it’s the veins but before I grab a new turbo I’d like to test lol

IIRC VGT is commnded and not actual. It's not hard to clean the turbo veins, etc vs. getting a new turbo. I'd at least tear it down and check it before I spent the $$$ to get another turbo.
