I have more power at 1/8 throttle than 1/2 or more. This happens while traveling empty @ 55mph up a fairly steep grade. I feel the boost come in and as long as I stay 1/8 throttle it pulls well. If I ease into the throttle I feel the boost leave and the truck falls on its face. The transmission will hold O/D until I reach near full throttle then it will down shift.
I have 3:73's and the RPM is ~1700. Is this normal?
The truck is 100% stock and sorry no gauges at this time.
This could be several things.Did this start all of the sudden? No CEL I assume?Have you checked all of the boots to see if one has come off or torn? What about black soot around the connectors of the downpipes?
How does it react to WOT?
Just bought the truck so i can't say if it is sudden.
Boots look fine, no CEL.
It drives fine at full throttle I just feel the boost come off like the waste gate just dumped the boost. I will get a gauge installed soon to see what happens to the boost levels.
If you are on it hard and then get out of it you will hear the turbo push the unneeded air back through the filter. But you are talking about power loss. Not exactly sure and do not want to speculate.Do some more checking and get back to us.
Remove the air filter and attach the adapter to the 4" rubber intake hose that goes to the turbo..apply a max of 20 psi from a compressor and then listen for a leak..
I hear what you are saying but the air would enter the cylinder and stop (i think).. The adapter method does work.. a lot guys here on the forum have similar adapters.. And yes, you need a regulator to maintain the 20 psi.. (you don't want to apply too much pressure to the system.. ) If you need any help building the adapter, just email me..

I'm with you. As far as I know, there shouldn't be a time when both valves are open, so even if the intake is open, it will just fill the cylinder.
This my sound dumb but if a valve is open in the cylinder (which there should be) then air will leak into the engine.
I assume you use a regulator to maintain 20psi and check all joints?
There is no overlap on the cam lobes so no air goes through the engine like you are thinking.
It's either an intake valve or an exhaust valve that is open, never both.
There is not enough clearance between the piston crown and the cylinder head to allow any overlap at all.
It's easy to over pressure the intake if you're not careful with that air hose.
.
Now as far as the original poster talking about the power dropping off, that is caused by either a fuel system that cannot keep up with demand or the HPOP system cannot keep up with demand.
Start by checking pressures while under load.
Thinking back before putting a programmer on the engine to boost the torque/hp, my engine would kinda act the same.. run out of power on a hill.. But, after installing my DiabloSport programmer, the problem has never returned.. I run a mild tune for towing.
