over the past year, If I plug my phone (iPhone x) into the usb in the center console/dash sometimes I get no carplay or charging. figuring it was the cord, I changed the cord and it got less intermittent.
Today I got in the truck and no charging or CarPlay. I tried both USB's in the dash/console. nothing. drove 10 min, nothing. got back in car, tried again, nothing, then plugged into USB for backseats and got charge (so that told me the front ports weren't working even though the lights around the ports were lit). I drove 20 min, never got the fronts to charge or give CarPlay (wondered if I had a blown fuse).
parked for an hour, got in to go home and front ports were charging and transmitting CarPlay. WTF? I can't figure why it's intermittent and figure if I bring it to the dealer, they'll just tell me that it worked when they had it.
I get this every now and then on my truck with my 11 Pro. I find if I unlock the phone, it starts charging and will immediately connect with CarPlay. Sometimes the phone even asks me to "unlock to use accessories". The difference between your rear power points and front may be due to the fact that the rears only charge, while the fronts are trying to exchange data. That is what I believe necessitates the unlock.

Thanks - next time it won't connect, I'll try manually unlocking the phone. I believe it was unlocked when I was moving the cord from USB to USB, but I'll check next time to see if that makes a difference
Believe it or not, those USB modules can and do go bad so perhaps you need to replace it.
The good thing is that a new one costs less than $50.00 dollars and it can be replaced by you in under 20 minutes and the only tool that's required is a plastic / nylon pry tool or a small flat blade screw driver.
The cord has been the source of my issues as it relates to what you’re describing. I’ve gone through 3 cords in 2 years. All Apple cords too
preciously I suspected the cord and replaced it, but this time I proved it was not the cord. There are 2 USB’s in the front and 2 in back. I plugged in each. Several times. The rears charged the fronts didn’t consistently. Same cord. Few seconds apart. Not a cord issue and probably threw a few cords away over the past year for no reason.

thanks. The next time it happens I will first experiment as to whether the phone being open or locked makes a difference. If not then I’ll ask the dealer to replace the usb.
