Overhead computor display not working???
Overhead computor display not working???
I have an 03 excursion, and after not using it for a week or two, noticed yesterday that the overhead console display was not illuminated nor could I get it to display any info.I'm unable to find a blown fuse or even which fuse is designated for that display. Anyone have this problem before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks nunomad
Hmmm....
maybe Y2K is back....
Mine went out yesterday too.... riding along and noticed it off....
also noticed Dash turn signals went out.... flashers work though...
need to check fuses, but parked it when we got in last nite and VERY hot here in Texus... lol

This is a common problem. There are several resistors on the display panel's circuit board that have come loose or fallen off. The chips look like a flat silver bar about 3/8" long x 3/16" wide and have a 2-digit number like 60 or 70 on them.
You do have to remove the console completely to get at the circuit board but it is simple. It is only 2 screws in either the sunglasses or door opener compartment (It's been awhile). Once you remove the screws, you have to pop the rear off by pulling down on it. It feels as if you might break it but it's OK. Now pull rearward until the tabs at the front of the console are released and it is loose. Just detach the wiring harness near the front and you can take it inside to do the rest. Put it on a towel so you don't scratch it up.
WARNING! Watch out for a falling chip as you remove the console. One might have completely fallen off of the circuit board. They are very small and hard to find otherwise.
It took longer for my soldering iron to warm up than it did to remove the console and circuit board. Just make sure you use a lower wattage iron and you might as well re-do all the chips at once. Solder the ends of the chips back into place. Some may look as if they are still attached but go ahead and check them.
Even if you replace it, I would re-solder the resistors on the new/donor board.
Good luck!

In my 04 EB I had one screw in the sunglasses compartment.
The release tabs are in the front of the console, not the rear. I didn't break anything, but I sure felt dumb about how I did manage to get it out of there once it was down and I saw it.
Just pull down on towards the front and it will come down.I had 3 harnesses to disconnect before it would come down.
Lastly, I had no loose or missing components that I could find. I still don't have a working compass/lie-o-meter. I'll look at getting a used replacement. At least I know how to easily get it down.
Thanks for putting this up. I wouldn't have even tried it otherwise!
