truckeemtnfords,
The shop is 40 x 64. most days I wounder what the heck I am doing at this stage in my life? The original foot print last spring started as 32 x 60. As I talked to the builder I mentioned adding a lean to on the side. He said NO. Make it all under one roof the size you want to start. So I went 8 feet wider to 40 feet. As dirt was getting into place I drove my truck into one area and realized it would be tight on the length of the truck. So I altered the foot print again by adding the 4 feet to the length. Truck fits it that bay well with room around both ends. I have a sap gathering station that hangs on the truck receiver and I wanted room for this also. The shop is really four areas. High bay area 40 x 36 with 15 foot at the center. The building has 10'-2" inside ceiling at the eaves. Then the other half of the building 40 x 28 is divided into a enclosed shop and a bay for my truck. Above that is a 28 x 14 loft with 7 foot head room. At this point of just getting dried in, I am happy with the results. Everyone should have one of these! Lots of finish work to do on the inside yet. Rough wiring is about 80% complete. Have contracted with the insulation guys. I am somewhat of a pack rat/ project rat, and don't do a good job of keeping things nice a tidy all the time so I now have more room to mess up and squirrel junk...... I mean good stuff away!
I have picked a company to install the boiler at some point this spring. Have the ceiling materials chosen Steel liner panels in white. Wall coverings are not decide on yet.

Man, after looking at some of these shops it makes mine look inadequate. Spent many years crawling around on gravel in the heat, cold, rain and snow. Had to shut down for the winter but if something broke and I needed to get to work I'd did the snow out and crawl underneath.

I've worked my way up and now I have what I think is a pretty nice set up with the house we bought about five years ago.
We have a two car attached garage for the wife's car and recently opened up space for the F-2

There's a four car detached garage across the drive from the house for the panel and the '37 Buick project. and my son's and mine daily drivers.

The barn for some more storage

And finally my shop. I use it for my business. It was uninsulated and poorly lit when we bought the place but about two years ago I was able to afford to insulate and heat it and install large amount of LED lights. I have a two post lift inside to work on my "business" vehicles.

.

Bob,
Very nice shop and buildings! I would have say the size is not what matters it the projects we work on and get started and or completed in what ever size it is. That barn is really nice looking!
I am using half of mine for basic storage also. When we collect a bunch of these big toys they do take up a lot of room!
Good thread!
I saw a nice 77 F250 on FB market place last night. It was sold in less than a few hours. Mentioned it to the wife and she reminded me the shop is still not done and I already have a old truck (the 2015) !
Regards,
Chris

bobj49f2 I totally understand how much goes into maintaining our " work " vehicles . It does seem however that periodically the wrong parts get ordered . For our peticular situation the shop is part of my business so that and equipment are all deductible . As far a vehicles we just claim a certain amount of work miles per year . I was quite happy on our first trip to the accountant after we purchased the coupe . I asked if we could possibly deduct some of the gas and repairs as advertising , his reply was " if you drive it you are advertising " . I then asked about the 53 and he said " since your basically building it from scratch it should all be be advertising " . Not that deductions are our biggest issue . My understanding is you actually have to make money to need deductions . lol

Folks,
In some cases the shop can be a part of the business also. That is what I would like to do with mine. I have equipment fo the business in there and have used it for one business event in 2020.
Joe hope the build is progressing as you expected. I had several timing setbacks but got through it so far!
Regards,
Chris
