I'm not sure exactly what Rio Rancho is like now... 20 years ago it was called "Little New York".... I've been East of Albuquerque for the past 14 years..... It's nice out here....totally small town USA ....
I grew up in Alb with short stints in Los Lunas, Belen, and Socorro. Growing up, Rio Rancho was always a joke, Like Renee said, it was "little New York". We always teased that it was started by the witness protection program. I never dreamed I would live out there.
In 2000, after I graduated from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology down in Socorro and we were trying to move back to Alb we found a great deal on a house in Rio Rancho. It turns out that it has some great benefits.....Mom lives in Alb and doesn't like to cross the river......its a great boundary....LOL
Rio Rancho and the west side of Albuquerque seem to be growing with leaps and bounds.... which is exactly why I moved myself and my boys out to Moriarty... and now that there is a Super WalMart in Edgewood, there really is no reason to go to Albuquerque much... the east mountains are pretty well self-sufficient anymore... and not a whole lot of crime and drama either....
I moved to RR from back east 16 years ago. Small town compared to DC. I lived in one place 10 years, which I'm sorry I moved out of. I live too close to a main road now so I'm looking to move to a quieter 'hood, but still in RR. You can get great deals on homes here, with the market slow and interest rates low. A buyer's market right now.
What do you do for a living? They say NM still has a pretty good economy.
Well right now Im out of work, im still looking for a job. I was a carpenter. I would like to leave Chicago one reason is the housing is way to much around here 350k-550k for a house with no land. The city sticker for my Super Duty is $150 a year and taxes are way too high.
Would love to be a firefighter somewhere.

Lots of firefighting opportunities out here in NM... due to the fact that we are in the beginning of major fire season..... Lots of carpentry jobs too because of how quickly the west side is growing.... houses and apartments going up like crazy....
