On my '02 E450 ambulance 7.3 I'm hearing increasingly worse chirping and I need to do something about it. It sounds as though it's coming from a device on the drivers side, and I hope someone can tell me what this item is. It has a single hose coming off of it that feeds into a small diameter vacuum hose.
I appreciate your help.
When it fails you loose brake assist, so take care of it.
I have had remanufactuered ones fail in very short order, so I'd suggest buying the best one you can find.

That's what I was wondering - what it's function was. I'm shopping for a replacement right now. Thank you!
My son went thru this on his OBS last year. He was on a long trip with limited tools. The Ford replacement did not come with pulley but the much-cheaper Napa one did.
I picked up a new pump yesterday and then drove 60 miles round trip to get groceries. Just as I was returning to camp (I travel and live in my ambulance conversion), I heard a new, different noise from what seemed like the area of the pump. I opened the hood once we parked and I see fluid leak spray seeming to be concentrated around the vacuum pump area. I'm planning to change the pump today - my question is: could the pump be responsible for this fluid leak I'm seeing? I can't determine what it is, doesn't look like engine oil.
my concern is that the leak is from the steering pump thats right below the vacuum pump.
Could the fluid be from the vacuum pump?
Thank you guys for the info you've already given me. Anything I need to know about changing the vacuum pump? It looks straightforward.
