My last vehicle was an Expedition and I read on this site how they came with the automatic locks defaulted to OFF. Someone had posted instructions which I used sucessfully to turn them ON.
Is the Excursion the same way? The locks are not automatically on, although I've read on here about how some of you have turned them off. Is there a way I can get them on? (I have 6 kids and the auto locks just make me feel better.)
On the newer 2003-2004 models and maybe even the 2002 models, the doors automatically lock once you put the vehicle into gear. I test drove a 2003 or a 2004 (don't remember which one) and the doors locked once I shifted it into gear. Although I'm not sure how you would go about turning them on with other model years. What year Excursion do you have?

1. enter your 5 digit code;
2. press and hold the 7/8 button;
3. press and hold the 3/4 button.
You should get a horn chirp followed by a honk if the system is enabled. If the system has been diabled, you only get the chirp.
You can also use the door lock/unload button on the driver's door.
Here is that procedure:
1. turn the key to the ON position;
2. press UNLOCK 3 times;
3. turn the key OFF;
4. press UNLOCK 3 times;
5. turn the key ON, the horn will chirp;
6. press UNLOCK then press LOCK;
The horn will chirp once if AUTOLOCK was disabled and twice (one short, one long) if AUTOLOCK was enabled.
Okay. That didn't work. I DO have the door keypad. It's a 2000, and the only thing I've seen in the manual says to push L to lock the doors and U to open them. (DUH)
Any other ideas? It seems weird that my Excursion had auto locks (1997) and this one doesn't. ??
Bear in mind the the autolock feature may possibly be a mandated thing for "passenger vehicles" that have electric locks. The Excursion does not have to comply with "passenger vehicle" requirements in a lot of aspects.
I'm only guessing here, and I DO wish my 2001 Limited had them, though.

Nope. I've got a 2001 Chevy and 2-2002 Volvos. None of them have autolocks.
The autolocks are a PITA when hooking up a trailer. So is the "Beltminder" seatbelt dinger (one of the most annoying features EVER put on a vehicle). Whoever put these features on the truck never towed a trailer.
Then again, maybe they did because both can be turned off.
