door locks

My 05 Superduty automatically locks the doors at around 5mph or so. What I wish it did was automatically unlock with you turn the key off. I looked in the manual and did not find a way to turn this feature on, or even if that is possible. Does anyone know if this can be done?

I don't think that its possible. Sure would be nice for the back seat riders...

Don't think there is a way to auto-magically unlock the doors when you turn the key off. You can disable the auto-door lock though. There is a way to disable the auto-lock though.

get an alarm system. ALmost all of them have that lock/unlock as an option. I know my Clifford does. You can just set it to auto unlock. Or you can turn off the factory auto locks and set the alarm to auto lock as soon as you turn the key on, which is better IMHO. Then when you turn off the truck, they unlock, not so safe i dont think.

I had the remote starter on my 01 and that is the way it was. This might be a good reason I need to add one to this truck. It is such a pain. I can't believe Ford would not make this some sort of option to turn on. Well, actually I can believe it.

This can certainly be done. It would require a two relays, a capacitor, and a resistor. I'm kind of busy right now or I'd draw it up for you. Give me a request and some time and I'll draw it up.

1st you'll need to trigger a relay (to give 12v pos) when you turn off the truck - simple relay setup here.
2nd you'll need to turn that power from relay number one into a pulse - need another relay, a capacitor, and a resistor for this part
3rd you take the momentary output and tap it into your unlock wire.

This solution would cost less than $10, and be reletively simple.

My opinion - get the the alarm.

I was mistaken, it only takes one relay. Makes this even easier. I went to the12volt.com to get a relay picture to work with and viola - solution.

The black thingy is a diode.

Here's the link 'cause it looks like the image isn't gonna work:

Don't ford's doors automatically unlock when you pull on the inside handle anymore? That is one of the thigs I always liked about Fords.

The door does unlock when you open it from the inside, but it does not help if you are wanting to then open a back door to pull something out.

Also bterry, thanks for the info. I think I will pick up a remote starter and wire it in. Thanks all for the help.

Oh now I understand, that would get annoying. I didn't mean to sound like a jerk if I did, I was just hoping Ford hadn't got rid of that feature in the new trucks, as I hope to trade up a few years soon.

I always get frustrated when riding in my friends/coworkers GM and Chysler vehicles because I always try to open the door before they shut the car off, and end up having to unlock the door myself because they shut the car off while I had the handle pulled so mine didn't unlock. Then they look at you like you are an idiot cause you can't wait to open the door. I always tell them if they bought a real vehicle I could open the darn door any time I wanted.

I am with ya Beerstalker, my bosses caddy ticks me to no end, having him drop me off somewhere and having to push a button to unlock the dang door. My '01 will unlock the door with the handle, so will the wife's creepy (jeep).

You're welcome cparks, the remote start/alarm is a much better idea. Glad to see you'll be set. Good luck.
