Eeek, not prepared to tackle that right now. Maybe in the Spring.
It sounds worse than it is. I did it in about 3 hours. Well worth the effort. Just get the wiring adapters from riff raff. Way easier than hacking up your factory wiring
Thanks, I've added it to the to-do list. But with daytime temps hovering at freezing here in CT (on the good days) it's not a January project.
In the meantime, I did buy some of those LED retro-fits; they installed OK. Light is whiter than before and I'll see if any oncoming traffic complains (I could run high beams all the time before).

The process involves cutting the old header to fit the new lights. The other option is buy a new header for < $75 https://www.discountbodyparts.com/ca...5197&gclsrc=ds and it becomes just nuts and bolts. No time saved, cleaner install. I cut my old header, buddy of mine bought the new header.
Oh, it's all Fiberglas? Then that's easy to cut away. I was under the impression it was steel I had to cut away.
I can do that. Any good how-to links? The only one I've been able to find doesn't offer much detail. Maybe I can stick the nose of the Ex into the garage and put some tarps around the back to block out Old Man Winter.
Expect a lot of dust from the resin when you cut. Once you cut the header panel, the old headlight assemblies will not fit... so follow instructions. I prefer wafer wheels and a die grinder. Use an indelible marker to lay it out.
Yeah, found a few YouTubes last night*. Doesn't look like a hateful job at all. Quite easy, actually.
Still not a freezing-weather job, but I can start collecting parts. The good part is that my headlights are already relayed, in a prior attempt to get better light output from the '01s. And I'll solder/heatshrink in the correct plugs, so no adapter needed.
Are OE that much better than, say, HeadLightDepot? Looks like OE are $100/side from White Bear Lake Ford, whereas the aftermarket are roughly half that. But aftermarket, and all that that implies.
Good mod.
*A couple of them with guys cutting and saying, "Oops, I wasn't supposed to do that." I chuckled.
I found a set of used oem take offs that still looked nice and clear on Craigslist and they came with the riff raff conversion adapters for $90. Maybe try a junkyard?
I thought it was much easier to replace the header with the new style, only cutting across the bottom, so it would clear the older bumper. That's what I did, and have had no issues at all. Everything lines up, and the newer headlights fit like they are supposed to. I was also able to adapt a new 99-01 grill to the newer header support.
Just a suggestion.
Flyboy1100, looks like I'm striking out with Britebox and my order isn't going to make it in time for my trip. Gonna try to wire up a harness last-minute this weekend but I'm thinking I should upgrade the male light harness at the bulb, no? Did you just run heavier wire to the stock light socket or did you go with a quality aftermarket 9007 connector? I'm not seeing any online that I feel would be quality versions of them. If you upgraded them can you share a link? Thanks
