What were the major issues with the SRW? The wind dam on the dually is huge. I would tear that thing off on a snow bank.

I can’t say for sure or how on earth it would possibly be caused by a trailer but this...

Never put in 4wd. Never off-road. Unjoint snapped. Front axle was done

Welcome to the forum! Smart move to go to a dually. How long is your trailer?

Welcome to the forum..... We have the discussion routinely about overloading a Ford truck. You should be riding comfortable now.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm gonna need some more details on this front axle story. It was in 4x2, hubs unlocked, and it broke going down the road? And the front axle was "done?"

Makes you wonder if the hubs had been locked the whole time. If the hubs are in the "free" setting, the axle shouldn't be moving at all, right?

My guess is he was going down the road, hubs unlocked, hit 4x4 and BOOM.

Nice upgrade.. the shortbed 250 with that trailer probably pales in comparison to the dually. Welcome to the forum.

I fully expect ridicule. Honestly, the truck pulled it just fine. I can’t pinpoint when the ujoint snapped. Hubs have never been locked. My buddy always gave me **** when he was riding with me saying he heard noise up front but we never looked. One day another buddy was riding with me and mentioned it so I figured maybe there was something wrong. Cranked the wheel over and saw that.

could be a random coincidence as I don’t see how an overloaded trailer would have anything to do with it but idk.

trailer is 44’, 16k

honestly have no clue when I broke. Dealer said the axle and needle bearings also needed to be replaced. Not an auto mechanic so that’s what I mean by “done”

It's a bit much for an F-250 diesel. At least going by the ratings.a

I'm more interested in how that joint failed.

Neighborhood kids have a way of turning ***** if they can get at them. I suspect one hub was in the “LOCK” position, likely inadvertently.
I have heard of new trucks leaving the dealer with one hub locked. But, that is just my guess.

having one hub locked i dont think would matter if 4x4 isnt engaged. guy at work blew up the front axle on one of our f350 .we suspect he was in 4x4 with just one side locked.

if the vacuum hubs fails to engage on one side and you put the power to it youll bust stuff as all the power is transmitted on just one side
