Random new guy
Makes you wonder if the hubs had been locked the whole time. If the hubs are in the "free" setting, the axle shouldn't be moving at all, right?

I fully expect ridicule. Honestly, the truck pulled it just fine. I can’t pinpoint when the ujoint snapped. Hubs have never been locked. My buddy always gave me **** when he was riding with me saying he heard noise up front but we never looked. One day another buddy was riding with me and mentioned it so I figured maybe there was something wrong. Cranked the wheel over and saw that.
could be a random coincidence as I don’t see how an overloaded trailer would have anything to do with it but idk.

honestly have no clue when I broke. Dealer said the axle and needle bearings also needed to be replaced. Not an auto mechanic so that’s what I mean by “done”

I'm more interested in how that joint failed.
Neighborhood kids have a way of turning ***** if they can get at them. I suspect one hub was in the “LOCK” position, likely inadvertently.
I have heard of new trucks leaving the dealer with one hub locked. But, that is just my guess.

having one hub locked i dont think would matter if 4x4 isnt engaged. guy at work blew up the front axle on one of our f350 .we suspect he was in 4x4 with just one side locked.
if the vacuum hubs fails to engage on one side and you put the power to it youll bust stuff as all the power is transmitted on just one side
