Wouldn't an open differential just shift power to the side that didn't have the hub engaged?

Well, if the OP never used 4WD, and was doing all of his driving with just one hub locked in then the axle on that side is spinning all the time. But no, even that does not really *explain* what happened. The most likely result from that situation would be internal in the front diff (if there were any). But I just threw it out there as a *possibility*.

It’s awesome!
Welcome to the Forum. I did the same thing you did..........only my SRW was also a 6.2L gasser. Didn’t take long to figure I wanted a dually.
Sweet looking Lariat you have now. Many miles of smiles to you and yours.

EDIT: IDK what you have for tires on your trailer, but I would definitely be looking at some load range G commercial grade trailer tires. Either in 16” or 17.5”. Goodyear G614, Sailun S637, or comparable. More expensive, but worth it.

Can these trucks even be locked in all the time? The only settings I've seen for quite some time on these are Auto and Unlocked. Nothing like the late '70's Chevys that I had which were indeed Free or Lock on the front hubs.
Is Auto the same as the Locked of past trucks?

I thought the choices on the hub were AUTO and LOCK?

Maybe my memory failed me in the walk from the garage back into the house. Entirely possible!
Edit: You are 100% correct sir! I retract the question. Your witness, counselor.

could be a random coincidence as I don’t see how an overloaded trailer would have anything to do with it but idk.

trailer is 44’, 16k
Thats a big freakin' trailer. You ever weigh it? 16K loaded seems optimistic.

(Disclosure, I don't think the 5er had any thing to do with your F250 issue, but DRW is the way to go for a beast like that)

Unless things have changed in the last couple years, if a toy hauler goes much over 16K you start seeing triple axles. My Raptor is 18000 GVW and has three 7000 lb axles under it.

I would love to see the loaded CAT scale ticket for it.

One thing to remember about toy haulers also, when empty all that space behind the axles is just that............space! So the extra length isn’t always adding weight, unless loaded. And, as one loads that *space* with *stuff* you are actually removing weight from the pin. Simple leverage.

I understand.

Axel weight is weight.

I really am curious about the real scale number on this rig. Loaded.

Pretty sure the big trailer had nothing to do with the issue. A 250 and 350 DRW have identical front suspension, don't they?

Love the new setup. Should be a great combination. Congratulations.

IMHO you are correct. Pulling the trailer had nothing to do with the axle damage. Something else happened there.

Dude.

I know the specs of the trailer and how to find them.

The GVWR of that unit is above 16000.

I have said i was curious about the actual CAT Scale weight of the fully loaded unit.

(unrelated, I already said I doubted the damage was related to the weight of the 5er)
