Bought a 2001 F-150 super crew with the 5.4 and the day after I bought it it popped a code. My code scanner says its P0302 and my search on the web indicates misfire on the the #2 cyl. Where can I find a complete list of codes for this truck ?
I experienced a similar error code on my ‘01/4.6 (62K miles). Turned out to be the COP (coil-on-plug). The way I tested it was to swap adjacent COP’s and see if the error follows the change. A really easy swap, maybe 10-15 minutes at the most. (be sure to release the connector lock located on the bottom of the plug.) Symptoms are excessive hesitation under light acceleration. After I swapped the coils it took several miles for the “check engine soon” light to re-appear, even with the symptoms still present. A good friend of mine has the same truck, same engine but fewer miles (45K miles) and has had two COP’s fail on him.
Thanks for the good advice. Usually if the miss isnt caused by the spark plug it is caused by the COP and swapping with a known good one is an easy way to tell.
I'm not totally sure how that all works. If you take a look in the feedback forum which is closer to the bottom of the main forum page I think you'll find some answers there.
