300K Miles later and our 2000 7.3 excursion is in need for a new Positive Battery Cable.
OEM Ford Motorcraft Part # YC3Z-14300-CB
Guess what? Part is no longer available anywhere online and has been discontinued. Spent a little bit of time trying to figure out if there was an alternative and the best option I have seen is the
Standard Motor Battery Cables Part # A123-00HP
If this doesn't work that I believe I will need to make my own cables. Looks like there is (3) Battery Cable Sizes for the Positive Cable:
Battery to Battery: 2 AWG
Battery to Starter: 3/0 AWG
Battery to Coil : 8 AWG
In the past, I have put eyelets on the cables and tied them to a marine terminal at the battery. If you need the cables too, you could make them up from stock. If you have a local battery/auto electric shop they usually make cables as well.
That's where I bought my cable kit and the quality is outstanding! Sure you could save some money and make your own but why waste the time? I also opted for the "Hard Start" version with the 3/0 starter cable.
After the install I immediately noticed an increase in speed of the starter motor, the overall engine performance increased, and anything electrical seemed to work better. My audio system showed a huge improvement in sound quality. You WILL notice a difference!
I have a the OE cables from my 7.3 in the garage if you're interested
Thank you for the offer. I ended up using the standard motor cable and it was a little longer but fit fine. Couple things different about the cable:
Needed to reuse the small wire from the starter to the coil.
reused the original plastic clips to secure to the frame locations
reused the metal bracket and rubber that attached to the bottom of the engine.
Sure you could save some money and make your own but why waste the time?
HAHAHA. I blew far more money making my own. I also upgraded all the sizes. When it comes to electrical, I wish I could just buy the typical stuff. But I had to go big.
I suppose it can be done cheaper if one wanted to do it again in a few years or they already had to tools to do it correctly. Otherwise, I would recommend purchasing a ready made cable from a custom supplier like those mentioned in this thread. You'll be money ahead in the long run, especially if you plan on owning your truck for a long time.

I agree on the ready made cables. If someone wants to save a few $ the Standard Motor Battery Cables P# A123-00HP works great with light modification and has heavier gauge wire then the stock cable that was removed.
