I own 2004 Ex and I replaced the OEM headlights with after market. I removed the adjuster from the new headlights wishing it would feet the existing, but it doesn't. Now I need to remove it. I'm referring to the in/out long screw adjuster that is mounted to the chassis. It has a plastic clip right next to the batteries behind the headlight frame.
I'm looking for guidelines to remove it since pressing both plastic tabs and pushing it out didn't work for me, im willing to break it as a last resort but that even didn't go well, i just broke the screw and the plastic mount part is still mounted.
The only thing i found was someone says spin it 1/4 and pull, so i tried but it didn't do the trick.
Highly desired a reference with pictures or video but at this point, any guidelines is welcome.
When I put on my aftermarket headlights on my 250, I did the same thing..rather than uninstalling the plastic clip that is mounted in the metal, which there are three of I believe, at least on the 250s...I just left the plastic piece in and removed the metal clip...the new headlights should have come with new screws and probably the new plastic pieces as well...they should all be the same as what you have....so I removed the screws and the plastic pieces from the aftermarket lights and used the factory screws to install them..you can’t tighten one too much or it will become off center and not align properly with the other holes...you have to align each one and tighten them about the same amount and keep going around in circles until it’s in and then put the top clip back in..I made a video on YouTube if you care to watch...although superdutys probably have a much different design than explorers...
Glad it helped...I made the video after watching other people’s videos where they removed those plastic retainer things and the metal slide clips and on the 250 and 350 and I guess excursion as well you can’t reach behind there easily...so I thought why take everything apart when I can use it on the new lenses...my flashers attach with just two Phillips screws underneath the headlight, although they can be a pain if your driver isn’t magnetic because the top of the bumper gets in the way...since then I’ve done the grill as well Before

I just had one of my LED dogs burn out which is weird because they are supposed to run for like 50,000 hrs. So instead of replacing it I’m going to pay the extra 20 bucks or so and stick in a 22” flood/spot combo light LED Bar where the dogs mounted and just wire it in directly to the pigtails...hopefully it won’t pop a fuse but I’ll deal with that when I get it put on...
