Hi guy I got a Ford F-150 1996 5L 4x4 single cab and my transmission doesn’t work anymore I call the dealer and they told me I got a 4R70w on it. And on my sticker on my door panel said trans / u I’m wondering if a AOD or a 4r75w fit on my truck thanks
An AOD will fit with a lot of modifications. You'll need to fabricate a kickdown linkage. The PCM isn't going to be happy, so you will have a flashing OD OFF light and a check engine light. It may not run right with all of the codes that will set.
The 4R75W was never made with a bellhousing that will mate to a 5.0L. So it won't bolt in.

1. when was the last time the transmission was serviced?
2. does the fluid smell burnt or look discolored?
3. does the truck have a proper transmission cooler?
4. Has or is the shifter stalk OD light flashing (meaning you have a trouble code)
5. Were shifts or performance of the transmission changed from the normal operation indicating a potential problem?
Take it to a transmission shop and have them look at your 4R70W, unless the case is damaged it can be rebuilt without having to do stupid and useless transmission swaps, The 4R70W can be built to be an extremely strong transmission. I discourage for the most part swapping in used transmissions as you usually don't have an idea of how it was used, maintained and serviced. Periodic service and proper cooling (IE properly sized trans cooler -not the factory in radiator one and proper filtration)
