Look at your post you started on the 5th as I posted how the starter with solenoid gets wired using the factory relay

For future reference, here's that other post referred to by FuzzFace2, in the post above.

This terminal is a VERY important junction point. Normally there's a short heavy cable from there to the (+) battery post. At this terminal, multiple fusible links deliver power to the rest of the vehicle. If not connected, you will have no power anywhere, so I'm thoroughly confused. I only see the one fusible link and it's just sitting there loosely. I don't see any of the others. Have they all been relocated elsewhere? Even with a conversion to the type of starter that doesn't need this fender mounted relay, you still need some means to connect all of the fusible links to the battery. You could even leave the relay there unused, and just use the one terminal as a junction block.

If would be very helpful if you could post a picture of the positive battery cable, and how it's connected to all of the fusible links, since this junction doesn't appear to be in the stock location any more.

You can see the multiple fusible links at the upper left corner in this diagram, either page 12 or 14 depending if you have an ammeter or idiot light:

Charge & Power Distribution - Gary's Garagemahal (the Bullnose bible)

Have you decided which type of starter you want to use? You should probably confirm which style you plan to keep. The conversation kinda covers both, but there's no use talking about the style you won't be using. It just gets confusing.

At the time of taking the picture I had removed the positive terminal from the relay to get a better look and that was the only other wire I had going to that terminal. I have decided I am probably going to go with the terminal with no solenoid on it cause it should work with what I have.

Sorry, but what are you saying ? Did you mean to say, your going to go with the "starter" with no solenoid on it ?

Or

Your going to use the new starter with a solenoid on it ?

Yes I meant to say the starter with no solenoid on it so the positive engagement style I think that will work best.

Thanks, that makes much more sense. I'm sure you'll wire bush the terminals before you hook everything back up...

I'm sorry, I didn't realize I spelled something wrong. I just checked, spell check didn't put a red line under any words.

OH now I see it, "brush" I'll blame spell check again...

Anybody else want to take this great set-up? I don't want to hog them all to myself.

That looks better. I guess you don't have as many "fusible links" in your model year as in later years ?

If you have time, you can go to "user CP" (blue bar up top) and add your truck info to your signature. It would help people know what your year truck is without having to go back to the first post.

Hey, I'm 66 y/o...

I never was real good at spelling back in elementary school in the 1960's.

I will definitely do that but the motor is from the 70s

So where are you with your troubleshooting progress now? Looks like we got a little sidetracked with grammar and spelling jokes by some mouth-breathing chucklehead. Criminy, some people...

I had previously asked how the starter relay responded to the key. Any results?

Is the starter installed yet? What does it do now? Please be specific, more than just "It didn't work". Did it engage properly or just grind? Did it turn the crankshaft at a normal speed? Or did it bog down, maybe even stall? These little details help decide how to proceed. Note I still haven't asked yet if the engine started. For this stage of troubleshooting, I'm only concerned with the starter operation.
