I have this right here and I don't know if it is a solenoid or relay cause it goes down the solenoid on the starter. this is on my 1981 swapped with a 400 there is also a picture of the starter I have should I have that solenoid or relay with this starter?
I think someone put this high torque starter on before me and I found a similar one that was just a starter with a solenoid so I'm gonna have to find a place for my ground wire to go. any suggestions for what to do with my ground cable?
Looks like you've got two threads started for the same issue. It can get very confusing trying to keep track of both at once, and it's easy for info to get lost or overlooked. I'd suggest keeping the discussion with the first thread:
You can use both that you pictured together pretty easy too.
Large cable from battery to the left side of the relay on the fender with the other wires like stock.
Other large cable from the same lug on relay down to the large lug on starter.
If there is a junper wire from large lug to small or starter remove in
Now run a 10 gage wire from the other large lug on relay down to small lug on starter and that's it.
That's how that type of starter gets wired with our relay.
