Started teh truck on Friday to work on it. Then my 78 bronco ignition died. Checked no spark from coil, change box coil fired. No spark from distributor got a new distributor, still won't start. Cranks Fine. The tan wire to the box has 12 volts, nothing at the white wire. the ignition in run. red wire the coil has 12 volts, but the red and blue on the starter solenoid has no voltage. The other wire going down to starter has 12 volts.
Can I by pass the wires from the ignition switch and give the box 12 volts from the battery to see if will start.
Now the fuse box has one dead circuit for the interior lights and dash lights. I think I may have shorted something there, I don't use the factory gauges, I run all Autometer and had the dash apart . Suggestions on where to look for the short.
Thanks and Happy New Year
Yes, there is voltage to the box, to the coil, msd helped me with the testing on their coil, spark at teh coil, spark to the distributor, no fire from the distributor ( new from autozone just returned). Engine cranks so today i will install a msd 6a box and distributor i have sitting on the shelf. Since the msd box bypasses the ignition switch, it should start ??????. Waiting on a new sending unit today and fuel pump, but there's gas in the carb so it should fire if only for a few seconds. Will see.
Thanks, i will let you know
Yes, The truck cranks with my remote starter from the + battery to the solenoid with the key on, it started before like this many times but now it won't. I am installing my msd box and distributor since it by-passes the ignition switch which i can use to crank the motor or install a toggle switch to the starter. I see later today, Thank you for your suggestions they are helpful if this doesn't work i don't know. Possibility could be the neutral starter switch ?
