Hey y'all. ok, here's the deal, my engine quit back in august for no apparent reason. I figured it was my points distributor or my old ##### coil. I had to by pass my ignition switch cranking volts to straight 12v to get it to start and run..etc..... it would start but wouldn't run without the 12v goin sraight to the coil. I tested the coil and it read ok. but when I tried gettin spark , it wasn't sparkin the plugs, I took the coil wire that goes from the coil to the dizzy and put my finger inside, cranked the engine over and I "barlery" got a shock, nothin like 50,000 volts like it's supposed to be so i'm wonderin what the problem is, I checked the fuse box, there's no blown fuses. So what's up?
Sounds like the resistor wire from the ignition switch to the coil is shot. It's a big pink wire from the switch to a connector under the dash. It gets bypassed by a full 12V on a brown wire from the starter solenoid to the same connector under the dash when you're cranking the engine. When the switch is in the "ON" position, the ballast wire goes back into the circuit to reduce the voltage to the coil when the engine is running.
