2011 dreaded engine knock

I recently purchased 2011 f150 5.0 with 82000 miles. Didnt notice anything at first. But I started hearing an engine knock. Lower end and mainly when cold. I'm paranoid that its cylinder distortion. Currently fighting with dealership to acknowledge it is there. I know I hear it. I do have a warranty on the truck. I guess what I'm trying to get at is there anything I can do to convince the dealership it's actually a problem. I know in the past people have had issues getting this addressed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should post a video up of it and let some of the members here have a listen. I own a 2011 FX4 Supercab 5.0L that I bought new, I'm currently sitting at 87K miles and for the trucks entire life its made what I initially perceived as a slight knocking sound, I was worried about it at first too, but the knock is very subtle and can't really be heard from the in the cab nor does it change pitch when I accelerate, it just disappears and is only present at idle. I've learned over the years that these Ford OHC engines tend to make more noise at idle than the Pushrods you'll hear from GM or Ram but that doesn't always mean something's wrong. I've heard and driven a few other 5.0L F-150's since the came out and I have yet to hear one that didn't have a slight knocking sound at idle. So for what it's worth my truck is 9 years old with 87K miles and ZERO engine problems. So perhaps it could just be that.

I know that there are some users here who experienced the actual cylinder distortion issue, hopefully one of them will comment and can provide further insight that I cant.

Engine noise

Take an oil sample ASAP. The oil sample reports are awesome on the amount of detail they can provide you. It will show if there is any bearing material or internal component failing and if coolant is contaminating the oil. Once you have lab results you can work with the dealer to take care of the problem.

Check with your local NAPA auto parts store and ask about oil sample kits. The NAPA I deal with sells the sample bottle, once I take the sample it has to be sent to Blackstone Labs and they provide a detailed report. Check out the website > blackstone-labs.com

Another option is you might go to your dealer and insist they do an oil sample, only problem is the lab will report to them directly and you may not get the detailed report. How well do you trust them ??

Try running a 20/50 oil.

Wouldn't that mess up the timing chain tensioners? These new engines are really sensitive to oil viscosity for that, and other parts.

I have a 5.0 coyote in a 49' F1, I've been running motorcraft 20/50 in it and it seems to be running just fine. Now having said that the truck has not been on the road yet I've only ran it at idle and some revs in the garage. It's a 2015 crate engine from ford performance and the directions recommend a motorcraft 20/50. I don't think it would hurt to run it in the coyote truck engine.
