Engine knock
I have a 1999 F-150 4x4 supercab. At 40,000 it started to exhibit a cold start knock. It was brought to the dealer and they told me it was a lash adjuster and it would not hurt operation or longterm durability. That was January 01'. Now I have 71,000 and looking to sell the truck. With a knock, resale value is what is being hurt. I bought the 48mos./100,000 mile warranty with the truck. I have recently brought the truck to the dealership that I purchased it and am trying to get the problem fixed. This dealership tells me it is piston slap. What I am wondering is if there has been many problems (service bulletins, recalls) relating to my problem. I have read about alot of engine knocks but they don't say what the problem is. The dealership has sent techs to look at the truck and it has been a week since my truck has been at the shop and they still don't know if they will cover the repairs. Any information would be appreciated.

I would not settle for anything short of 100% satisfaction. My 97 truck with 96,000 miles does not have this so called "piston slap" therefore it is not a normal item and the dealer would never convience me that cyclinder/piston/bearing wear is not covered in the powertrain warrenty. Pay your $50 to $100 dollar deductable and make them fix it. Contact Ford directly if you get the run around.
