Carburetor
Hello all,
I have a quick question, attached are pics of my carb. I bought a rebuild kit cause it is running a little rough. I've never rebuilt a carb before so this will be interesting. All the research I've done leads me to believe it's a Holley 2300 2barrel. If you see something in the pics to the contrary, please let me know. If this doesn't work out what carb would you recommend? I'd probably look for one with an electric choke. My 292 is stock in a 1958 F100.
Thanks
Everyome does this, including myself, at some point early on. What is that you ask? Start buggering with the carburetor first thing, when it is actually the very last thing to look at, or adjust. Ordinarily they don't need much, if any adjustment once setup properly.
Y-Blocks have their own idiosyncrasies, among them are user ignition timing setting errors due to slipped crank balancer weight. They also have solid lifters and need to have the valve lash set correctly, both will affect how it runs quite a bit. (Maybe you know all this already, but I figured I'd bring it up just in case.)
Welcome to FTE, btw
What symptoms indicate your carb is in need of rebuild?
To answer your question, its a decent looking holley and the rebuild kit is ordered using the carb number on the airhorn. I would keep this Holley. If concerned, take it with you to the parts house to get the correct rebuild kit.
It will pop and backfire. Sometimes its hard to start.
I'll just keep it. I'm putting the electronic ignition on and will see what happens. I've already done a 3g alternator conversion and putting ram horn manifolds on this weekend.
Thanks for the input.
