I'm in PA so not the coldest out there but I use mine. Seen some guys use timers I just plug in when I get home and leave it. Haven't noticed it using that much electricity.

I have mine on a timer. It turns the plug on 3 hours before I leave. I watched a video where a guy monitored temps and kept the engine block heater plugged in all night. He determined that after about the 3 hour mark, it wasn’t doing anything except sustaining temp. It won’t hurt the truck keeping it plugged in all night, just seemed like a waste of electricity.

the manual confirms that anything above 3 hours won’t make a difference. Also doesn’t suggest using until -9.
I got this from Amazon - plug it into the back wall of my garage, run my heavy, weatherproof extension cord into it and go out under the garage door. Click it on about 4 hours before I'm going to leave, then remote start the truck with FordPass and click it off and unplug when I leave. Works awesome!!!

I’ve ignored that last bit, I start using it around 20. Honestly, we don’t get many days below 0 here, I use it to get the engine warm quicker so it’ll get heat in the cab and actually defrost. I may be moving to a colder climate soon though, we’ll see...

I have the same thing, different brand. I plug outside spot lights into it so I have control. Never knew they existed until about 5 years ago.
I had one with my '08 F-250 6.4l diesel that was a timer that I could set to come on at say 8:00AM and shut off at say 11:30AM BUT only if it was below say 15 degrees (settable)! When I traded in the the '08 for my '15 F-350 6.2l gas truck, it didn't have a block heater. I gave the timer to a buddy who has a diesel - he, in turn, gave it away a couple of years later. Do you think I can find the damned thing ANYWHERE online now??? I have no idea on the manufacturer either! Dammit!

I have used a remote control outlet for my fountain for 10 years now. While I have a block heater, it does not get much use in SoCal on the 19. Even at the house in Wyoming, the block heater does not get used. I plugged the 02 in once in the last 19 years.
