Park Kill Wire

Hi All!

I am installing warning lights and need to have some turn off when the truck goes into park. I did find the Park output wire that is in the bundle of wires on the passenger side kick panel. It says it will pull the wire to ground which is find I plan to run it to a relay.
But where Im kind of confused is it says "To properly reference this output, the customer supplied external controller/device needs to pull this output up to VPWR with a 10K Ohm resistor. Thus when the output is active, the voltage at this output will be 0 volts. When this output is not active, the output will be pulled up to VPWR by the 10K Ohm pull up resistor."
So do I just need to add a 10K Ohm resistor to the wire and then have it go to the relay? Id play with it but dont feel like cooking anything!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Without looking at some sort of schematic I'd say that was the case. It would seem in the "TRUE" state this wire is forced to ground, and if 12 volts were applied then things would likely get hot pretty quick. A relay coil doesn't provide much resistance, so even with a relay installed in the circuit current flow would be pretty high. The relay should still close with the 10K resistance in series with the coil.

Even if it doesn't work in this configuration, the resistor will keep you from tearing something up. I would use at least a 1 watt rated resistor.
