i found these things in the bottom of a box of junk that i bought for $5 in an yard sale .i have no idea of what they are or what they are used for .i think that the big one might have been some kind of extractor. i am sure the one of you might know .thanks
The top one is used for cleaning paint brushes. You put the handle in the springy end, dip the brush in a cleaning solution (water or paint thinner). Pull in out of the cleaning agent and hold the brush inside another bucket or outside. Then pull the handle up and down. The brush will spin, shaking out all the paint. A great way to clean brushes. The other tool looks like some sort of hand clamp but no idea what it is used for.
Saw set is a term applied to various forms of a tool used in the tuning and sharpening of saw blades. The saw set is used to adjust the set, or distance the saw tooth is bent away from the saw blade.
You are correct Bob, looked up Apex saw set and saw many that looked exactly like the one pictured here. My Dad had many unique old tools but I have never seen one of these til now, good catch.
Martin and Bob. You both get the prize. The top one I still use frequently. Roller covers and paint brushes. The second one, I remember from my dad in the fifties.

I have a too like this. I got it from an older friend. She gave it and some other tools when her husband passed away. Neither of us knew what it was for. I'll have to look at it more closely later since its in my garage and we are in the middle of a snow storm.
Thanks, Bob Jones, for identifying it and thanks, Bob (Hillbilly that is) for starting the thread.
