2001 Excursion roof panel seam rust

Just noticed some rust bubbles at the rear of the roof panel seam. It seems to be under the strip that conceals the seam also. Has anyone had any experience in repairing this? I am sure I am not the first one with this problem.

I thought i was the only person to have rust in that spot. I have read every rust thread I could find and have never seen anyone have rust there...... besides me.
I was planning on tackling it in the spring time. I will keep an eye on your thread to see what you come up with. If I get mine started before you do I will post pictures and a write up.

Edit: Mine is on the vertical part of the seam under the back hatch. I was assuming yours was also if not I will detail the repair in a different thread.

Lots of "elbow grease" required.
1. Grind out all the original seam sealer in the roof seams.
2. Remove all rust and corrosion to bare metal, particularly in the seams.
3. Treat all bare metal with rust prohibitor, and repair any holes with epoxy repair.
4. Use Flow on seam sealer to seal roof seams. Use 2 part epoxy primer on seams and seam sealer.
5.Prime roof seams area with 2k primer
6. Finish sand and paint.
The flow sealer is applied with a tool like a caulking gun. See Amazon. Use epoxy filler to repair any holes instead body filler because it resist moisture. POR makes an excellent product .

Your welcome. I couldn't find a body shop willing to repair mine for less than 1k$, so I studied up and did it myself. My truck is a California truck with no rust anywhere else, so I was really surprised to find it on the roof. I suspect it comes from parking in a covered area after rain water has accumulated with no sunlight. I'm thinking about redoing the roof with Raptor liner. I have post around here somewhere with pictures.

im having rust show up in the roof seams on both sides and wondering what it that’s to fix.

My seams were beginning to crack along the edges in some spots so I got proactive and had the entire roof sprayed with color matched Line-X. Now I never have to worry about rust, grime or waxing. Another benefit is insulation properties, sound and temperature.

I don't have pictures. I had the truck painted due to some bad paint issues and previous owner somehow buffing the clear off in some areas. It was repaired at that time. The strip was removed and we now have bedliner on that entire seam.

You only applied Berliner to the seam, why not the entire roof? I had the whole roof done for multiple reasons including insulation (sound and temperature), rust prevention, and zero maintenance.
