Buzz test only confirms electrical and gives an indication of armature gap. This data is slightly helpful. Injectors could pass a buzz test and be 100% useless.
You could look at the top of the solenoids and check for a reman plate. Even if replaced they don't sound healthy from your information.
Few years ago my e99 F350 7.3 which has about 220,000 miles was having very noticeable cold starting issues when up in the mountains and starting up cold in about 15 to 20 F* temperature.
The only thing I changed was switch from 15W-40 Delo engine oil to Shell Rotella T6, 5w-40 Synthetic, as recommended by some members on this forum and the truck has been totally trouble free ever since.
It very seldom gets below freezing where I live and normally use the truck.
I suspect the injectors are still original and are running on borrowed time, but so far so good.
Hello all, had a busy week hopefully getting around to the truck this morning. I’m not disagreeing that injectors would be better off replaced but at this particular moment in time I don’t have the money for it if not 100% necessary. So it appears switching oil is a solution to try. I currently use the regular shell 15w-40. Sounds like 5w-40 is a better option. I do live in Florida so it’s not like I’m dealing with real cold temperatures it’s 50 degrees right now. Would I switch back to 15w-40 once it starts heating up again or run 5w-40 year round? Thanks guys.

Dan, I run 5w/40 Triax oil all year long even in the extreme heat we’ve been seeing out West. I know several members have mentioned they do switch back-and-forth. However, keep in mind they are doing it because it is a personal choice. You on the other hand would be switching to 5W 40 as a Band-Aid more or less for your injectors.
Just need to make it to the spring and I should have money to do some parts upgrades. Guess I’ll have to start doing some reading on which injectors to go with, I’m sure that’s an opinionated subject lol. I’m gonna change my oil over this week and get back with the results. Nothing wrong with the shell is there? Thanks all.
Nope, nothing wrong with Shell Rotella T6 5w40. I have been using it for nearly 8 years in my truck and I live in GA. We use our truck to tow 18,000 - 20,000 lbs GCVW cross country while achieving 11 - 13 MPG hand calculated on 255,000 mile injectors.
I am out of my T6 stockpile, so I am going to give Traveler 15w40 a shot, just for giggles. Not the CJ-4/SN blend though, either CJ-4 or CK-4 without the API certification.
As for injectors.... Remanufactured, Matt at Bitterroot Diesel is best and Jim at Rosewood is just behind him. These are the only two shops I would send money to for remanufactured.
Although, when my time comes, I will more than likely be purchasing new Alliant AC from Riffraff or Bitterroot.
All three of these companies are site sponsors as well.
