Hey everyone. Having tough time finding info on this. Tried many keywords to search but can't find one issue like this. Have a '17 350 XL. Has 350k miles and I tow a lot. The last two days I was driving at highway with cruise (no adaptive cruise). Suddenly the truck accelerates throwing head back into the headrest. Before I can even try to brake or hit cancel on the cruise, it releases and slows back down to what the cruise was set at. Done this 3 times in last 2 days. Only lasts a second or two each time. But I lose my crap each time. I tried driving without the cruise and I can't duplicate. Possibly only on cruise. No check engine lights. No pending codes. Bone stock. Any ideas?? Throttle position sensor on pedal possibly or throttle body sensor? Maybe something with the cruise? Sorry this is long. Thanks for any help.
I would have said it was something to do with adaptive cruise control, but you said your truck doesn't have that feature. Maybe a bad speed sensor?
Possibly. On another forum yesterday a tech suggested that it might be the Body Control Module. My mirrors won't move down but will move in all other directions. And my back windows won't work at times. He said that the BCM controls those features in addition to the cruise. Thinks it might be a bad BCM or that the BCM might need a flash or update?? Is the speed sensor in the differential?
My 2006 F350 has a similar problem. If I am going for 8-10 hours on cruise control on the interstate, all of a sudden I have momentary super quick acceleration followed by a clunk as the cruise disengages. In my case, the ABS lite comes on and stays on for approx 50 miles. Then it clears. There hasn't been an error code when i get it to the dealer but the ABS is cleared by then so that's not unexpected. I have never been able to track the cause down. It will happen a couple times during a long trip.
Good luck with the search! We'll be interested in hearing what you find.

A BCM problem sounds plausible. The speed sensors used by the ABS are at each wheel. After giving it more thought, maybe the speed sensors aren't involved. My (limited) understanding is that the cruise control is based on the speed as reported by the transmission. The system can disconnect the cruise control if it detects slip at one of the four wheel speed sensors, but it shouldn't be speeding up based on any of those sensors.
