Attached pics are of the oil pump with the pick up tube already removed.
My question is, it has one bolt that appears to hole the entire pump in, is this the only one that has to be taken out to remove the pump?
Also, there is a large nut on the side of the pump that was secured with a piece of wire, what is the purpose of this? This is the end cap and if I take this off what will I be getting into? That is the one bolt that I was talking about
The oil pump is held in with one bolt and whatever amount of sludge, rust, and grime have built up. The pumps can be difficult to remove. Remove the retaining bolt and try to twist the pump in the block. If it moves, work it out of the block. The big wired hex on the side holds the pressure relief valve together.
Thank you for the help, I am gradually getting to the crank and will inform you when I get it out. Like you I have little time during the week to do things but will work itt as I can.
Under that cap with 4 bolts you will find the end of the gears that actually pump the oil.
Oil pumps can be especially tough to get out due to fine dirt that has settled around the housing.
They sell replacements if you break it.
