My 84 351 C6 bronco xlt makes a horrible grinding/clanking noise when i pull off from the lights or accelerate during driving. the uni joints and cardinal joint are new (less than 10k) and my np208 leaves little droplets of ATF dextron 2 wheverever I park...
Those belts sometime get stretched, if they get overheated or if you run low on fluid. This would be my bet, but this is just an guess. Does it sound like a grinding or a clicking?
it sounds like both, mate. clunking, clicking, the lot.
I've tried to add more dextron 2 atf to it, but the top oil lug is stuck fast. *******... I'm going to get some WD-40 on the case and see if that helps.
The bad thing about the belts, is that if they get stretched, it may only be on one side or in a spot along the chain, causing it to ride out of place also. This does nothing but continue until the belt either stretches enough that it simple spins on the gears, or snaps, or worst case, breaks teeth off of the gears. I hate to say it, but sounds like it is time for a rebuild, or a swap to a NP 205 (all gear driven, bolts in{if from married style ford})
205 you reckon eh?
the C6 is married to the transfer case, and the rear out put and front output are both yoke seperated units. i wonder how much a decent np205 will cost here in Sydney... :/
I would definatly watch Ebay, they are fairly cheap here in the states, but not sure what the shipping would be. The usually go for about $50 to $100 here. Let me know, I could probl. find and ship you one if they are scarce there. Lots of old 70s fords there though, I imagine?
