Transfer case problems (np 208)

when I go to take off my transfer case makes a grinding noise, when I shift it into 4 hi for a couple of seconds and take it out, it goes away. It also wont make the grinding noise at all when I leave the hubs locked. What the heck is going on in there?

has it got fluid? is it leaking? I would open it up to see if anything has broken or catching in there! You can never tell!

If its a auto first look at the trans fluid, is its old or thick it can cause the transfer case to be hard to shift into and out of 4wd.

If you are having trouble (like grinding) getting it into or out of 4-low thats the 1st sign that a 208 is going to need a rebuild soon.
