Super duty mirror spot light

Wondering the difference between factory side mirror spot lights and "Recon" mirror spots. Knowing wattage of different bulbs might help. I think Recon is led, and my truck is not, or maybe the spot is, as it's in a sealed throw away unit.

I tried the smoked lens Recon unit and the spots barely came through (tried at night too). If it's not a lot more I wouldn't even bother, stock is quite lame.
I imagine you can only fit so much horsepower into that small unit, it's a great idea thou.

I don't have LED and the side spots are a joke really. Plus it only works when you are stopped. If I'm looking for a lost kid or dog I want to be able to drive slow with the spot light on !

You Might see if running a wire to battery or another fuse with a higher output is available

My factory mirror spotlights are LED and stay on up to a certain speed. Manual indicates threshold is 6 MPH.

I defeated the speed function of the mirror spots so they can be on anytime. Just wanted more lumens. I don't feel "Recons" going to get me appreciably more. If there's nothing out there that will give me a lot more I'll be satisfied with that. I know I'll have to go another approach if it's that important to me.

They are lame huh......................... Look at the trouble they took to do it, each have their own switch, module function, beautiful placement, it's all there, everything's done, except brilliance.

I put one side on and waited till dark to see if I wanted to do the other. It hardly came through the tint (I'm not exaggerating "hardly").

I talked to tech support @ Recon and he said the clear might be 25% brighter, this was his opinion and they had no info on lumen rating for stock or theirs.

How did you defeat the "Speed Function" - is that available in FORScan? If "Yes", where - I never noticed it scanning through the spreadsheets!!! Thanks Crotchety!

Move one wire on the module.

There's a good video on you tube. It involves a single jumper wire from one terminal to another to feed 12v on (always) to feed light circuit.

Did you also cut the grey wire?

Cut the grey wire and loop the end to the 12v constant in the harness.

If you want a plug and play solution to defeat the speed limitation...BoostedGreyGoose Designs makes a little harness that plugs right inline with the factory harness. I went that route out of sheer laziness and have been happy with it.
