I have replaced the e-brake cables at each rear wheel and I'm wondering if I should replace the cable from the pedal back. It seems to be working fine, but thought maybe I should since I am replacing everything else. My question is, what is the procedure for doing that? Is it a difficult job?
Check the cables to see if the rust has taken a toll on them.
If they are solid, keep 'em. If they are looking frayed, get 'em off there!
My front cable broke. The 2 rear cables that go into the drums look good (they are in a sheath). I am going to clean and inspect them before I put them into use.
It's not too bad of a job. Hardest part for me was getting the pedal out and back in after hooking up the new cable. There are 2 nuts that are a good arms length away inside the engine bay.
While the pedal is out, be sure to clean out the fresh air vent in the driver's side.
On mine they are in the wheel well. I need to undo the plastic fender liner and go the previously stated arm deep in the wheel well to reach them where they come through the firewall.
It all swapped over pretty easily when I changed cabs, but I don't think that I separated the cable from the pedal assembly.
X2 on cleaning the fresh air vent if you have one. There will never be a better time, since the pedal assembly blocks access to the vent and most of its fasteners.
