A good friend went to Denver for a 02 7.3, stopped in Centennial came out to truck not turning over.
I get a call around 5:30 and spend 30 min trying to troubleshoot over the phone, only to find significant changes to starting wiring system in 02. 3am next morning we are headed north for 5+ hrs, after one flat on the trailer and getting his truck loaded we point south for the trek back home.
I am very happy with how my truck is performing for the most part, could have used more air going over La Veta pass but if 9400' 6% grades are my only issue I'm ok with that.
I was over that pass last November on our way back to GA as we went through South Fork east to I-25 and then down to Santa Fe. It is beautiful country, but a bit dry for my tastes.
Good on you for performing the rescue mission successfully!
Air bags are a nice thing to have. I installed some air bags when we bought a 37 ft 5th wheel and went with Air Lift 5000 bags and a Wireless One compressor which I mounted between the bed and the spare tire. I use the bags when we have the 5th wheel on or hauling cords of firewood.
Do you have a winch on the truck or trailer, it is difficult to tell from the angle of the image? If not, how did you get the truck on the trailer?
Once you get better at using that FSM, you may be able to provide a bit more help on the wiring of the newer trucks. Either way, good on you for helping out a friend in need. Also, thanks for posting pictures, we love pictures!
I have torsion bar hitch for mine and it works pretty good at leveling the truck out. I find it's best to put them on before loading up. However, they do inhibit my surge brakes a little.
For my camper 33ft tongue pull the equalizer sets in fairly level.
this is my brother's equipment trailer it's usually hooked to his Ram 5500 I never pulled it before had to borrow the pintle hitch along with the trailer, no winch i used a " come along".
air bags would definitely have helped, walking out to the truck at a fuel stop my wife told me " your truck looks tired ".
it still looks tired I need to unload the truck this morning and fix it at my house, there is no way the trailer could make it into his drive.
I pulled the short bus onto mine with my truck. Unhooked the trailer, chocked the wheels, hooked a few chains together and pulled it right on up there.

Nice job helping a friend out. I agree with the suggestion of air bags, however, if you have a winch and saw the truck squatting like in the picture, I suggest putting the truck on the trailer backwards. You put the weight on the Trailer’s axles rather than on the tongue. Since you had a flat on the trailer, I’d check your tires for the build date and for dry rot.
There’s nothing like towing at elevations to tell you the truth about how your truck is running. La Veta Pass is a beautiful area especially in the Fall.
Tires are new, picked up a nail passing through Pueblo.
oh and just figured out the issue, broken trigger wire at starter and blown fuse soldered new wire now he's running to pick up a new fuse .

Picking up a nail in Colorado seems to be the norm lately, especially with all the roofing going on, the roofing companies haul the old shingles with Trucks and the nails bounce out the bottom of the cracks of the trailer. I got a chuckle out of you saying he’s running for a fuse...
He had mixed emotions when I showed him the fuse, 😳🤬🤣.
between clipping a cow elk just north of Costilla ,(if the grill gaurd didn't kill her the trailer did) and the construction around Castle Rock this trip could have gone way worse.
I'm glad to be home safe.

‘Well, I would have turned around for the elk, gutted her and loaded it up. Yes, that area is called the GAP...it sucks especially towing. Our genius leadership aka local government decided that it was FINALLY time to expand the Interstate between Colorado Springs and Castle Rock... this should’ve been done 20+ years ago. There was a group whining about the expansion project being a toll road SO they only added one lane to each side, They could not pay for it otherwise.
So we will have an interstate designed to properly carry traffic from 20 years ago... this project should’ve added two lanes north and south bound made those lanes toll roads with the two existing lanes free. Yup, 5 years of painful construction for 1 F%%%%%%’N lane because a group stated it was unfair to make the upgrades “pay for use” because they are on fixed incomes. Why not just use the 2 FREE lanes??? Oh wait there’s no such thing as free! Alright rant over!
Sorry, got a little work up there. Glad you made it home safe...
Hit the elk on the way up, wouldn't have lasted all day in the sun. I would hate to deal with that I'll wait till they finish the road before I go back.
