midship tank mounting

The piece that the tank strap "mounts" to on the frame part of the truck rotted away.
I am looking at the parts manual illustration and the best I can figure out is that piece is a "cross member" that goes from one side of the frame to the other.
Am I correct in what I see? e4tz-9061 or 5030-a? I think that's actually for the econoline but wouldn't it work for our trucks? either way I'm guessing NLA
I could look at the one still connected but it's buried by a frame mounted tool box and I just undercoated the truck so not only is it hard to see/access
it's pretty slimy under there right now as well .. (arg)
The tank strap is good but nothing left where it ties into.

So, which part exactly? There are two crossmembers. Is it the forward crossmember where the rear cab mounts are? Or the rear crossmember?
And which part is rotted out? The angled bracket next to he frame rail, or the other end of the strap closer to the driveshaft?

Either way, these parts are not available as replacements. The good news is that they're all the same from 1980-1996.
The bad news is that they are a bit tough to find used as they are a pain to remove.

I just rebuilt both of those crossmembers in a project truck I'm working on. I drilled all 28 or so rivets out, and removed both crossmembers and then plated them and welded them all back together. One frame bracket I had to replace (forward tank strap, next to frame rail) and I found a good one at the junkyard. Laying in the gravel and drilling out all of those rivets is really UNFUN.

The outer strap hangers are real rust traps, and are known to rot out and fail. The driver's side is always the worst for rust.

Here is a picture of what the forward left bracket looks like for the midship tank strap. I circled in red the hole where the "T" end of the strap hooks into. This is a used bracket I got at the local junkyard to replace mine that was rusted out.

The rear crossmember has different holes for the strap ends that are triangle shaped, see below. Again, they are known to rust out and fall apart, especially on the driver's side where the straps attach. (The red arrow is pointing at the passenger side bracket, but they are the same left and right regardless).

Perfect, thats it exactly.
It's the rear one and it's that bottom angled piece.
I assumed it was NLA and also figured it's going to be fun locating a good one.
Thank you for the pictures!

Do you have any junkyards close by? On the rear crossmember, I believe the left and right angled brackets are the same, and they were the same all the way to 1996. You'll have to drill 4 rivets out to remove it. Sometimes you can weld them up, but if they're too far gone it's best to replace.

Find somebody parting out a southern truck that doesn't mind removing the crossmembers.

I've got one on my donor truck still. It's just going to get turned into a truckbed trailer one of these days.
