I googled "ford truck enthusiasts 223 oil" and the first hit was a thread that the second post summarized is "the book [I assume owners manual] says use sae 30 non-detergent for a '54" I won't post the link as I feel that is bad information.

Well OK, but he has a '64, not a '54, the '64 Operator's Manual sez "in most cases" 10w30 is suitable year round. I'm not sure they even had "detergent" motor oil in 1954, but they did in 1964

Good oil. Easy to find. Plenty of zinc. I used to use it exclusively but I have been switching over to Driven GP1 semi- synthetic as things come up for an oil change.
