Ive used marvel in the past just curious if people use it on their diesels.

nope, not here. I did however installed a oil by-pass system (diy, referring to SpringerPop and Wood-N-Things creations), and do 10k intervals.

From what I've read about oil additives is that none of them are very good....most have additives that the oil manufacturer had already put in it.

If you want to combat sludge, change your oil more frequently......I change mine every 3000 miles.

Additives are not needed and should not be used with our engines (or any engine for that matter). I think if you use a quality oil and maintain it, you will be far better off than using some Snake Oil that claims to improve everything.

Change your oil and spend the money saved on additives on oil analysis. This will show you really how your oil is holding up.

yea i do change my regularly and have always used good oil, just dont know what you get when you buy a used vehicle. Just try and take out some of the "X" factor of the previous owner

Given the nature of the high pressure oil system, I stick with good oil and good filters. Use Rotella T syn and just started using Donaldson ELF filter. I was doing 5k changes with a Motorcraft filter, but plan on sample at 5k and change at 10k.
For my "other" experience, '93 Honda Accord with 310k, nothing but 2500-3000 mile oil changes, never an additive.

I wouldn't mess with any additives especially with a diesel (costly to replace). I use Rotella synthetic and that's it.

Sludge and contaminants are minimized by the use of proper diesel rated motor oil and monitored oil change intervals. Of particular importance with our 7.3's since the injectors are powered by the same motor oil under high pressure. Additions of any oil additive could potentially create foaming and wreak havoc with the injectors.

Never used any additives. No need to, all of your popular diesel oils have the needed additives blended in. Just make sure you use the proper rated diesel oil and a good oil filter ( I like the MC oil filter) and change the oil at the proper intervals.

The only time I will put an additive in is if I have a problem, think I have a problem, or just want to for fun sake, but I will only do it 200-300 miles before I change my oil. That way I dont run with it for very long.

Pull your valve covers. That will tell you all you need to know. If the oil has been maintained properly, there won't be any sludge at all to worry about. If you have sludge, you've probably got injector problems and other issues as well.

Here's mine after about 250,000 miles.

It looked the same after 350,000 miles. No additives needed, no sludge found.

Rev-X is popular with the 6.0 crowd.

Personally I don't run any additives...if you run good oil you really don't have any need for them.

Yep, I've got MMO in mine as we speak...I don't put but about 5K a year on my truck and use 15w40 grade oil - Mobil Delvac 1300 at present....when colder temps got here I had about 3600 miles on the oil, I dropped the oil filter, dumped it and refilled it with MMO and then topped off the crank case which took 2.5 qts total which is about 15% of the 16 qt total oil capacity...this gave me a lower viscosity oil for colder temp use without having to change my oil or keep it plugged in. The temps are coming back up and I will change the oil out with just the MD 1300 when the temps get over 90* or I hit 6K miles which is about 1K away. I've had no consumption so far, it cranks easily and runs great.

I bought my truck used with 162K and was not overly impressed with the apparent maintenance it had received with the previous owner....some people don't like MMO or any additives for that matter and that is fine - I have no use for Lucas oil additives myself....but, I have witnessed benefits from MMOs use and know of no harm it has caused when used properly....as always, YMMV ...

That is clean. Just curious, what brand of oil, oil filter and change interval?
